The game had two sequels, Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. This game is notable for its detailed description of mythical creatures. The game was co-developed by Triumph Studios and Epic Games, Dutch and American game developers respectively, and published by Gathering of Developers in 1999. Originally titled World of Wonders, the game incorporated several role-playing video game elements that were dropped when simultaneous turns were implemented. Sidenote: This has been addressed slightly in the upcoming sequel, by adding a PBEM-like mode that allows hot-join into Live MP.Age of Wonders is a turn-based strategy video game often likened to Master of Magic. But combats with other players are impossible.Ģ. PBEM: take all the time you want on independent turns, it's not like your opponent is sitting there waiting for you. So there are basically 2 ways people play:ġ. It's unfortunate, but necessary (see bottom). While a battle is occurring, the rest of the game has to lock up. I don't play MP, but I've seen this explained often enough to have a good idea of it. ![]()
